Preparing for a Wedding

Preparing for a Wedding

In about two weeks, I will have the honor of officiating the wedding of a couple from my church. This event not only involves the ceremony but has also led me to prepare the garden of my home, where it will take place. The couple decided to hold the ceremony at my house, which has required several prior arrangements and adjustments to the location. Everything has been planned: the food, seating for the guests, lights, music, symbols of the ceremony, and many other essential details.

The couple has already purchased their wedding attire, but when I checked my closet, I realized I don’t have a suitable outfit for the occasion. Despite being the officiating minister and preparing the garden for the event, I am not ready in terms of my attire. If I don’t hurry to find a suitable suit for the wedding, I won’t be ready, and I might dishonor those who invited me to be part of this special day.

A Spiritual Reflection

"The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come! So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’ But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them. The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town. And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor. Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’ So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 22:2-14 (NLT)

You and I have also been invited to a wedding. Although we were not at the top of the guest list, God extended an invitation to us and provided us with the proper attire. That wedding is imminent, and we need to be properly dressed for that event. Is your outfit ready?

If not, the question would be: Do you have an answer for God as to why you are not appropriately dressed for the wedding, or will you remain silent because you know there is no satisfactory answer? Today, I invite you to put on the proper attire of righteousness, love, and peace so that we can attend that wedding.
